Real Mums started in 2005, conceived by Amanda Cox, also known as Mad Cow, mum to three boys, wife to a Chef, writer, speaker, TV presenter, sculptor of Weetbix, lover of fine food, regular consumer of not-so-fine food, and realist.
It all started out of her own need for a safe-haven to escape to and share, openly and honestly, her real parenting experiences, and to channel her creativeness into writing; where she kept her own online journal before most poeple had heard of the term “blog”, let alone had one, and realism-based parenting articles. It has since grown to an amazing online (and sometimes offline) community of, and safe-haven for, Australian mums, offering non-judgemental support and advice (Bad Mother’s Club) and well known blog (Diary of a Mad Cow).
Real Mums itself has become a portal for parent information and advice, and support for mums, complete with resources that focus on the reality of your life, rather than telling you what you “should” be doing by the “experts” – often childless or working away from their children so actually have no clue what it’s like actually living with them – who damn you to a lifetime of hell and permanent psychological damage to your children should you not do things their way and only ever their way!
We understand that your life consists of more than just your children (I know! Who’d've thought it what with everything we have thrust down our throats!?) and that all kinds of stuff can affect you and your parenting at any given moment in time. We appreciate everyone has their own beliefs, values and experiences and a way to do things that sits best with you.
We get that you’ve found yourself, lying in the foetal position on more than one occassion, feeling like the world’s worst mum, wondering why you can’t get it “right” and convinced that your toddlers recent shopping trip screaming tantrum was all your fault!
We know you’re confused and not sure what to do at times.
Based on our own experiences, we have created a heap of products, parenting products and information and a heap of other sanity savers – all of which take into account the reality of life, parenting and everything else – that will make your life easier.
And quite possibly to get the bloody kids to pick their bloody shoes up and put them away!
(But no promises!)
We do know that when you face reality, rather than “just think positive” or “look on the brightside” or even “just move on”, and deal with it, work with it and accept it, life is easier.
Real Mums is where parenting meets reality; real information, real support, real advice and real honest.
